Thor

The arrogant and mighty Thor is cast down by his father to live on Earth among humans for igniting a war with the ice giants. After learning about his father’s fate Thor must find a way back home to Asgard, but in order to do so he must find a way to recover his mighty hammer.

Chris Hemsworth plays an excellent Thor. And this is one of the better Marvel adaptations into film in a while. This movie is fun to watch and keep an eye out for some of the cameos that will be in the upcoming Avengers movie.

Bridesmaids

Kristen Wiig plays Annie, who’s career and love life is a complete mess, and she is chosen by her life-long best friend to be her maid of honor. Annie has stiff competition against another bridesmaid in trying to get the Bride-to-be the perfect wedding. As the two bridesmaid exercise their one-up-manship hilarity ensues as things go less than perfect.

Bridesmaid is a hilarious movie that’ll keep you entertained from beginning to end. If you enjoy Wedding Crashers and 40 Year old virgin then this movie is right up your alley.

Your Highness

James Franco and Danny McBride play two brothers, Fabious and Thadeus, who goes on a quest to rescue Fabious’s wife from the evil wizard Lazar. They encounter and battle many creatures and monsters along the way, and they even meet a beautiful woman who shares the same goal of killing the evil wizard.

This comedic fantasy adventure is more like the midevil version of Pineapple Express; lots smoking and juvenile antics, but less funny. The comedy feels like it was forced and McBride isn’t as funny in his previous movies. Overall there are moments of hilarity but there wasn’t enough for me.

Arthur

Russell Brand is Arthur Bach, an heir to one of the biggest corporations in the world. Arthur’s drunken playboy lifestyle is unfit to run the company, so his mother issues him an ultimatum to marry Susan Johnson, played by Jennifer Garner, who can run the company under the family name otherwise he loses out on his 800 million dollar inheritance.

Arthur reluctantly agrees to the terms, but he soon finds himself in a pickle as he falls in love with a New York tour guide.

This movie is hilarious if you find Russell Brand comedic. His humor can be subtle at times, and it can be hard to catch, but it is definitely side-splitting once you see it.

Source Code

Jake Gyllenhaal plays military Captain, Colter Stevens, who awakes in a train. He is in the body of  man name Sean Fentress. He doesn’t know where he’s at or how he got there. He is with a woman named Christina who is his friend, but he doesn’t recognize her. The train suddenly explodes and he awakes to find he is part of a military experiment. This experiment allows Captain Stevens to relive the last 8 minutes of the train explosion in the body of Fentress. Now he must use those 8 minutes to find the bomber to prevent another more devastating explosion.

The science behind the plot is a little fuzzy, but nonetheless the movie is thrilling and fun.  Gyllenhaal plays his part well making you feel his frustration and confusion throughout the movie.  Source Code is a great Sci fi movie that won’t disappoint.

Battle: LA

Battle: LA is a classic alien invasion movie. The aliens crash onto earth and begin their attack. Los Angeles becomes the last stronghold for the West Coast.  A group of marines are sent out on a rescue mission only to become the ones that needed to be rescued themselves.

This movie starts off painfully slow. The action does picks up, but not enough to feel satisfied. There are a few things about the movie that bugs me.  Besides the cliche plot, the film feels like it’s one of those shaky-cam movies, and almost every scene in the movie is either a close-up or a medium shot that makes it feel claustrophobic. I enjoy watching these alien invasion movies, but Battle: LA brings nothing new to the table. I think the movie should have focused a little more on the macroscopic view of the invasion rather than just solely on a small platoon of marines with personal issues.

Just Go With It

Adam Sandler plays a successful plastic surgeon who hooks up with women by pretending to be a married man. But when Sandler believes he has met the girl of his dreams he enlists his assistance and her children to play as his ex-wife and kids to keep his lies going.

Aniston and Sandler have good chemistry on screen and this film is hilarious and is one of Sandler’s funnier movies in a while.

True Grit

The Coen brothers are known for making off-beat movies that are dialog driven, very similar to Kevin Smith movies. True Grit is a story about a young girl, whose father had been murdered, that hires a tough no-nonsense US Marshal named Rooster Cogburn, played by Jeff Bridges, to hunt down the killer. In the process they team up with a Texas Ranger named LaBeouf (Damon) who is also looking to arrest the killer.

The action is far and few in between and some of the comedic dialog is mostly dry except for a few one-liners from Cogburn. Overall, this movie will be much in the same as the previous Coen brothers films. It’s not horrible and it’s not great, but it’ll somehow gain cult status from their fans.

Tron: Legacy

This is the sequel to the highly anticipated cult classic of the 1982 movie Tron. The original was never really a big blockbuster movie, but it gained cult-status throughout the years.  Tron: Legacy picks up about 7 years after the first movie with Kevin Flynn’s mysterious disappearance, but it’s takes another 20 years for his son, Sam, played by Garrett Hedlund, to find him trapped in his own creation called “The Grid”.

This sequel, like his predecessor, has amazing effects for it’s time and the action sequences are spectacular.  The overall story is interesting but the execution of it felt a bit rushed even for a 2-hour plus movie. The lack of character development is what really hinders the story. I had more questions about characters of movie than it answered or showed.

If you’re looking to catch this movie I recommend seeing the original first as there are a few bits and pieces from the first film that makes an appearance in this sequel. Don’t be surprise if Tron: Legacy doesn’t blow your mind. Just enjoy the special effects and awesome soundtrack.
